and for some insane reason I am watching The Exorcism of Emily Rose while I work. Everyone is asleep. It is very dark and quiet. I just went out to the back kitchen which faces others backyards to make my “dinner” and there is a guy burying something with a shovel in his garden….
If I don’t blog for a few days… I’ve obviously been murdered.
That or I’m in Spain till the 31st… Either option could be viable.
Hate to break it to ya but its right around the corner. Per usual my mom just ordered me my valentines day usuals (chocolate covered strawberries from Godiva and flowers). I jokingly reminded my parents if it wasn’t for them I would never get gifts on Valentines day. My mom’s response “well maybe…
Today I am reminded that Valentines Day is soon approaching. Ye naysayers gripe that Valentines day has been a holiday set up by Hallmark in order to cash in on many lame-ass couples who try to out prove their love to each other (and perhaps this is true) but it is one of my all time favorite holidays. I hardly even think of it as a romantic holiday really. I have been single the majority of my life and continue to look forward to it year in and year out.
I only have the most amazing memories of Valentines Day. As a child my ever wonderful and creative mother concocted an imaginary story where on Valentines day 7 of my brother and my most beloved stuffed animals would come to life on the eve of Valentines to prove how much they loved us. In order to show how much they cared they would hide around the house in little nooks and crannies and cupboards and closets (one year I swear mine was even hiding in the fridge) holding presents and valentine’s day candy. They would lay clues to their whereabouts by allowing an attached piece of string with a colored heart to peak out. (Usually my animals hearts were pink and my brothers hearts were red.) I still remember waking up excitedly on what usually was a school morning and searching around the house for my animals hearts and most importantly the special permission to eat the candy that comes with it before school. But I digress this brings me to my most important point.
Godiva is my absolute favorite chocolate of all time. I’m pretty sure I initially only went to Belgium last year so I could have the most absolute, pure and legitimate Godiva chocolate.
I have watched my dad give my mother a large box of truffles every year for special occasions. Each chocolaty nuggety truffle of goodness held a special significance and each bite I was given felt like the ultimate privilege. Slowly but surely my parents saw I was up to the chanenge of taking on some high-end high-quality product and I began to receive small mini-boxes during holidays (attached to my stuffed animals) on Valentines Day and then in my stockings on Christmas. I am not a huge chocolate fiend so when I do recieve it, I want it to be the best.
That being said… if I don’t get any after the 2 years worth of obvious hints I have carefully been laying out for my boyfriend I will freak the eff out and buy my own.
like I’ve started doing every year since I started college
